Scientific Name Common Name  Periplaneta americana (Linnaeus)                                                                      American Cockroach Periplaneta australasiae (Fabricius)                                                                   Australian Cockroach Blatta germanica Linnaeus                                                                German Cockroach  Recognition      Adult Color reddish brown  about 25-40 mm long  a blackish brown butterfly shape streak   on pronotal shield with a yellowish ¡°T¡± shape   band in the front part of the streak  submarginal pale yellow band around the   edge of the pronotal shield    Ootheca dark reddish to blackish brown  about 8 mm long  usually with 8 eggs on each side       Adult Color reddish brown  about 22-35 mm long  the streak on the pronotal shield is similar    to American cockroach except  without a   yellowish "T" shape band in the front part   of the streak  submarginal pale yellow band around the   edge of the pronotal shield  pale yellow streak on outer edge at base   of each front wing    Ootheca brown  about 11 mm long  usually with 12-14 eggs on each side  Adult Color light brown to tan  about 10-15 mm long  2 parallel longitudinal stripes on the    pronotal shield    Ootheca yellowish brown  paler end attached to female until it is    hatching  about 6-9 mm long  usually with 15-20 eggs on each side        Damages  Many kinds of food, a particular fondness    for fermenting food  starchy materials, tender parts of the   plants  Anything with nutritive value including   all kinds of food, and such things as   soap, glue and toothpaste  Habitat  Restaurant, food processing plants,   grocery stores, bakeries, water closet(WC),   refuse collection, steam tunnels  Similar to American cockroach,sometimes   they occupy with American cockroach    Usually found in food storage area,   kitchen, bathroom, restaurant, food   processing plants, shipyard  Disease  Carrying many kinds of bacteria, virus, worms, fungus and parasite eggs which cause human to be ill.    Plague, Dysentery, Typhoid fever, Salmonellosis, etc.
