2. Integrated Pest Management Approach

2.1 Highlights

Routine check (or preliminary check for short term program) to potential harbourage of pest is an integral part of the pest management program particular for the most common vector pests found in outdoor environment – cockroach, fly, mosquito and rodent.

Prompt response to enquiry is a critical part in sustaining quality service especially in customer relationship between the health authority and the public.

Precision treatment – aims at localized infestations against specific pests that may occur from time to time; minimizes unnecessary contamination to other non-infested areas and the environment.

Effective communication & cooperation – in order to achieve good control result against vector pests, communication and cooperation between the health authority and the PCO are essential; moreover, education to the public by the health authority towards pest prevention issues is vital to sustain long term control.

2.2 Key Components of IPM Program for Large Scale Control Campaign

   Inspection / Monitoring (Pre-treatment / Post-treatment)
   Determination of infestation level
Application of IPM strategies & tactics
   Evaluation and program update

2.3 Key Steps of IPM Program

Pre-inspection to the entire covered region particular to “high risk areas”.
Identification of pest, pest damage and potential location for infestation.
Review reasons for pest breeding, harbourage etc..
Implementation of IPM application procedures (e.g. environment modification, chemical control etc.).
   Report with recommendations if necessary.
   Evaluation of treatments.
   Communication with the health authority.

3. Features of our Pest Control & Management Program

Modern control technology for flying insect at outdoor areas: highly efficient mobile equipment with large chemical output to control adult flying insects in large-scale operation within short period of time.
The use of environmental products such as Insect Growth Regulation to control the larvae of mosquito particular in sensitive areas such as ponds etc.

4. Recent Projects

Zhuhai city and Shenshen city (Nanshan district) – participating various “Four Vector Pest Control” campaigns since late 2002 to early 2004 and met with the “National Four Pest Eradication Standard” upon completion of the programs.
